Dating and Dutch Treat

Is it proper etiquette to expect dating expenses will be shared?

It is my opinion that it depends on the type of partner you are seeking. If you are a man seeking a traditional marriage in which the man earns a living while the woman is a housewife, the man should pay all dating expenses. However, if the man and woman desire an egalitarian relationship in which they are both to serve as equal partners in all areas of their relationship/marriage, then it is appropriate for them to go Dutch Treat on dates. Nevertheless, in some cases economic disadvantage may be a factor, in which case, the parties need to discuss how dating expenses should be shared. For instance, a girl with a good clerical job may meet a boy in medical school. They desire a traditional marriage, but until he becomes a doctor, she will have to pay for dating. However, it is understood that if they get married, and once he is in practice, it will be his job to be the breadwinner while she raises children and fulfills the role of homemaker.

How to Self Publish Your Novels for Only $20

I self publish my novels under a pen name, and have my books for sale on Lulu, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Apple bookstore. I do it all for under $20.

	How?

I signed up for a www.Lulu.com account and use Lulu's instructions and toolset to convert my Word document into a formatted .pdf document, design my book cover, and even obtain a real bar code. Lulu doesn't charge me a penney. The $20 I spend is for the proof copy Lulu mails me for review, so that if the book is satisfactory to me (and it meets distribution standards) I give Lulu the go ahead to list my book with all the third party booksellers named above.

Just go to www.lulu.com and get started. All you need is a Lulu account, a computer, internet access, Microsoft Word, and $20. Of course you have to know/learn how to use Microsoft Office and Lulu's toolset, but it is sweat capital you are spending, not your money, or at least no more than $20.

Haiku Contest

I can't think of anything to blog about today, so why not start a haiku contest? The winner simply gets her haiku acknowledged as being the best one.

Here is my attempt, and feel free to correct me if I have not followed any technical requirements:

	Old man is waiting
but the cart never arrives
until it's a hearse

How do I find a job? By not looking.

Until now, I have never looked for a job. I always manage to find them. I always manage to find good ones! Actually, I should say, the good jobs found me. One of the best books I ever read on the subject is now out of print. But there are newer books with some of the same ideas such as Use Your Head to Get Your Foot in the Door: Job Search Secrets No One Else Will Tell You or Job Search Handbook for People With Disabilities: A Complete Career Planning and Job Search Guide, 3rd Ed.

Overthe years, I have been pretty successful in finding jobs. I have consistently earn six figures. Once or twice I had million-dollar years! Whether you paint houses, dig ditches, or work in an office, you can follow this same strategy. One of the best books on the subject that I've ever seen is The Consultant's Manual: A Complete Guide to Building a Successful Consulting Practice

Also remember, you I never unemployed! You our consultant currently between assignments with some available time.

How do I find a job?

How do I find a job?

This is the question, isn't it? Especially if you are unemployed and have been for a while. I'm somewhat fortunate because I'm voluntarily unemployed. A few weeks ago I finished a consulting job in New York City and now I'm trying my hand at making money blogging and monetizing my blog entries. So far, I have not made a single penny, so I'm not yet in a position to tell you whether what I'm doing will ever pay my mortgage or car payment. Right now my savings and stock dividends are doing that job. I think I'm just being lazy, but pretending to be working.

However, many years ago the job market was tough, just as it is today. I was fresh out of law school and no one was hiring. Waiting in line with my classmates to interview with law firms only helped about 1% of us. Still, I found a job within 1 week of passing the bar. How? I did everything but look for a job online, in the newspaper, or with job agencies. Do I have to repeat myself?

If you are looking for a job, do not look for it online, in classified ads, or at job agencies.

Why do I say this? Because this is where your competition is going.

So, if you haven't figured out where I am going, here is the secret:

Figure out what you want to do (and let's assume you are already trained or educated in your career choice), and then call someone that does it. Ask them if they are aware of any opportunities in your chosen field, and if not, ask them to give you a name of someone that might know of them. Take meticulous notes and be very friendly and complimentary and inquisitive. Listen. Keep making phone calls, going from one referral to the next until you get a job interview. If you don't get the job interview, keep calling people, just as I have outlined herein.

Guerrilla Marketing for Job Hunters 3.0: How to Stand Out from the Crowd and Tap Into the Hidden Job Market using Social Media and 999 other Tactics Today

What is the Meaning of Life?

I don't know the meaning of life. At many times until now I believed I understood what it all was about. Now, I have determined I know so little that it would take 1000 years of hard study, experiment, and invention to even address this question in the first place.

However, with this said, I believe you can be happy while just avoiding such big, metaphysical or ontological questions. How? Simple.

	be a good person

The Simple Facts: Starting a New Business

Starting a new business is not difficult. My recommendation (and this is only a non-legal, non-tax opinion based on nothing but business sense) is to just get started. Start doing exactly what you think it will take to make money. Once you start making money, then worry about all the technicalities. However, with this said, I would immediately open a separate business bank account, in your name. Your social security number will be your tax ID number for tax purposes. This helps avoid any future problems you might have with accounting for the business, usually for tax purposes. Second, I would visit your city's website to see what your business and regulatory license requirements might be. Almost every city's web site has a starting a new business section that walks you through the process of determining what licences you need, how to apply for them, and how to get them.

DMSO for Joint Pain and Inflamation

DMSO Liquid Concentrate 99.9% Pure 16 fl. oz.
DMSO is a well kept secret. I've used it for years. Whenever I've had a minor sporting injury or strain, I've put a little DMSO on it and next thing you know the pain is gone. The only caveat is that it gives you garlic breath and it can give you a rash if you use too much of it.

Online Dating: The Meaning of "Chemistry"

If you are like me, you are single, educated, and don't like to hang out in bars. As a result, if you desire to date, you have discovered that online dating is one of your limited means for meeting new people.

I am by far no expert on the subject of online dating, but I do offer you one very important caveat. If you are not looking for a shallow physical encounter, a meaningless relationship, a lack of commitment, or to be the victim of a "booty call," never, never, never, date anyone that says they are looking for someone with whom they will have "Chemistry."

My reasons for this caveat, even if I give the Chemistry seekers the benefit of the doubt they are really not seeking a "booty call:"

A person looking for "Chemistry" is looking for an instant relationship solution. By believing in Chemistry, they are likely discounting the hard work any relationship or marriage requires. They are saying let's just let the pheromones do the work so we don't have to work hard.

	Maybe this book can help:

I Can't Believe I'm Buying This Book: A Commonsense Guide to Successful Internet Dating

Brain Training

Recently I started playing Lumosity, an online brain game site, because I felt I was losing a little bit of my mental sharpness. Going to work every day and doing the same thing over and over again didn't seem to offer the stimulation I needed. I was forgetting to dos, not noticing things, stumbling to find words, and having trouble remembering names. After four weeks of playing Lumosity, not only did I significantly improve my score on the various games I was playing, I was remembering a lot more and not having words stick on my tongue as much, I was more aware of my surroundings. I paid $76 for a year's subscription.

My research indicates that there is a schism in scientific research. Some scientists say the brain's function can be improved and developed. Some say it can't, that IQ is static and can't move more than a few points, brain tissue has very limited regeneration capacity, etc. My response to the divided research is to conclude that, anecdotally, brain games have helped me. They have increased my memory and mental sharpness. Whether my IQ has been increased or my grey matter multiplied, I have no idea. All I can say is the old adage "use it or lose it," seems to apply in my case.

If you don't like the idea of playing online games, you can alternatively try doing puzzles, reading up on the subject, or buying brain game software.

Hypnosis is the act of intentionally repressing the conscious mind and bringing the subconscious mind to the forefront. Most people can be hypnotized by others, and almost anyone can hypnotize themselves -- called self-hypnosis or auto-suggestion.You have, undoubtedly, seen a hypnotist making someone quack like a duck on stage for its entertainment value. While that is certainly possible, it is not the form of hypnosis which we approve, or which we recommend. That type of entertainment hypnosis, in our opinion, is a bit like giving a loaded gun to a child to play with. It has also tainted the entire practice of hypnosis.

We view hypnosis as a healing art and a method of expanding our consciousness and our awareness. Therapeutic hypnosis also known as Naturopathic hypnosis, can be used for weight loss, smoking cessation, pain management, elimination of irrational fears, called phobias, elimination of disease causing mental conditions, and much more. Naturopathic hypnosis also has many more consciousness expanding functions.

	Hypnosis is real.

The human mind has two states -- conscious and subconscious. There are those functions of the mind and body which we control through our will such as reading, walking, and talking. There are also those functions of the body which happen automatically. We breathe, we blink our eyes, our heart beats, we digest food without consciously thinking about it.

Some of these subconscious function occur in the brain. Creamy and breathing are examples. Some of subconscious functions occur locally or in the spinal column. The reflex to remove a finger from a flame occurs in the spinal column. Our body moves the finger even before the brain registers the pain. Our heart beats its particular rhythm as a result of localized electrical impulses. This is not to say that messages are not sent to the brain, and even to the conscious mind while these things are occurring.

There is also ample evidence to suggest that the brain or the mind can exert influence and control over otherwise automatic, subconscious bodily functions. With proper training, we can exert some control over the automatic and beating of our heart. Although we breath automatically, almost anyone can consciously regulate the rate at which they breath.

There is clearly a link between the subconscious or autonomic bodily and mental functions and those which are volitional. Through hypnosis we can intentionally control both conscious and subconscious function.

	A Brief History of Hypnosis.

Fritz Anton Mesmer (1783 to 1815) was the originator of what we call today, hypnosis or hypnotism. It is his name which gives us the term mesmerism. Interestingly enough, Mesmer was a medical doctor and his original application of mesmerism was used to treat illnesses, believing that most, if not all illness was the result of an imbalance in the body's electrical fields which manifested themselves as disease.

Despite conventional medicine, there is still a substantial population which believes that a proper balance of energy within the body can eliminate the symptoms of organic disease. There is certainly some evidence that one’s state of mind can directly affect one’s health.

Mesmer's work was followed up on and expanded by James Braid (1795 to 1860), a Scottish medical doctor who coined the term hypnotism which was actually a shortened version of the term neuro-hypnotism which meant "sleep of the nerves."

It is interesting to note that hypnotherapy and hypnosis in general was originally developed as a medical therapeutic process. It wasn't until much later that hypnosis became a carnival sideshow attraction and a form of entertainment.

Today, both the allopathic (MD) and osteopathic (DO) medical professions recognize hypnosis as a valid form of therapy. Hypnotherapy is used for such objectives as smoking cessation, weight control, and pain management. In the many instances, hypnosis has been seen as defective as drugs for pain management and relief.

Even today, some practitioners credit the balancing of bodily energies through hypnosis as a way to ameliorate the effects of disease caused by microorganisms, viruses and injury. We must date however that there is insufficient clinical evidence to state that conclusively. However, there is substantial anecdotal evidence to support the position.

Fortunately or unfortunately, depending upon your point of view, hypnotism and hypnotherapy are largely unregulated in the United States and Canada. There are a few sanctioning bodies for hypnotherapy practitioners. And still, there seems to be no prohibition on using hypnosis as a carnival sideshow act. As a result, the efficacy of hypnotherapy is, all too often, discounted by some physicians and certainly some, if not a majority of, medical patients.

Exploration of the conscious mind.

What is the conscious mind? Is it something physical like the brain? Is it something nonphysical, like a computer program, but operating within the brain's biological-computer?

There is another perplexing question. If the mind is non-physical, like a computer program, how is the mind related to the soul?

 The conscious mind defined.

First, let's establish that there are two parts of the mind. The human mind is bicameral, that is, it is composed of two elements: the conscious mind and the subconscious mind.

The conscious mind is responsible for processing everyday thoughts. It is responsible for our conscious movements, thoughts, ideas and communications. Most of our waking time is under the control of our conscious mind.

The subconscious mind, which we will discuss in detail in the next section, is far more complex. Part of the subconscious mind, called the autonomic nervous system, is responsible for all of those things that we don't think about, yet our brain continues to manage. For example, regulation of body temperature, digestion of food, even the act of getting hungry, vision, breathing. These are all under the control of the autonomic nervous system. It's a brain system that, if it's working correctly, we rarely think about.

 Similarities to a Computer System

A computer system has two types of memory: A). Short term or random access memory; B). Long-term random access memory. Short-term memory is where computer programs are stored when the execute and where data used in computations is temporarily stored. This memory is only active while a particular program is running. As you read this webpage, the words on the page are stored in short-term memory and then overwritten, in whole or in part, when a new page is read. Long-term memory, or random-access memory includes disk drives, thumb drives, memory cards, external hard disk and all those forms of memory that we used to permanently store data and programs. Short-term memory is statically attached directly to the central processor while everything else is outside it.

The brain works in much the same way. Art imitates life. Our brains stores the information we need to operate on a daily basis in short term memory. This memory is both imperfect and occasionally overridden. Have you ever heard the saying, "Use a word three times and it's yours." That means that if you learn a new word, and make use of it in a sentence at least three times within a day or so, that word will be permanently added to your vocabulary. It is unlikely that you will forget the word or its meaning over time. Using the word three times moves it from short-term memory, the brain's computer buffer, to long-term memory, the brain's permanent storage.

This doesn't answer the question of the location of the brains permanent vs. temporary storage. Everyone is relatively certain that short-term memory is actually stored in the brain. The problem, however, is the location of the brain's long-term/permanent storage. Clearly, some of the permanent storage is hardwired, such as reflexes. However, under certain conditions such as hypnosis, an individual can have almost perfect recall of events as early as infancy and early childhood. If one thinks about it, the amount of data storage for this type of memory recall is massive!

In some instances, under hypnosis, people are believed to recall, from memory, events which happened before they were born! This process is often called past life. Where are these memories stored? Can they be stored in the brain? The brain didn't even exist before you were born or incarnated. If these memories are real, where are they stored? How are they accessed?

Exploration of the subconscious mind.

For many years, the subconscious mine was an enigma. How and why it worked were a riddle. Modern science, however, has begun to offers some insight into the working of the subconscious.

The first part of the subconscious mind is the autonomic system which we discussed in the last chapter. This controls automatic functions such as breathing, heart rate, etc. The other part of the subconscious mind is even more mysterious. It is responsible for our dreams, long-term memory, and occasional flashes of inspiration.

Did you ever hear the phrase, "I'll sleep on it," meaning "I'll push the problem to the back of my mind and wait for some flash of inspiration." That flash of inspiration is the subconscious mind communicating with the conscious mind to say "I found the solution.". Oddly enough, those flashes of inspiration, those insights, often come when our subconscious mind is most active... when our conscious mind sleeps.

	The subconscious and memory.

It is uncanny, but under the correct controlled conditions that human mind exhibits almost perfect recall. Conscious, waking memory is flawed. We constantly forget things. Our recall of events is imperfect. This can be seen in the case of criminal investigations, where multiple witnesses can give different descriptions of the same person or event. Didn't they all see the same thing? They did. However, their short-term memory was corrupted. That corruption is due to the conscious mind's filtering of sensory inputs. The brain doesn't need perfect recall in short-term memory to do most daily functions. The amount of data required to actually live your daily life is only a fraction of the data actually absorbed by your senses in the course of a waking day.

Is it really necessary to remember the color of the shirt that each person wore in the office today? Is it really essential to remember the exact height, shoe size, or birthday for each one of your friends and family members?

The conscious mind filters everything it takes in, storing what it thinks is important and essentially discarding details that it deems unimportant. As we shall see, however,it doesn't really discard them. It stores them in a buffer, or holding area, to be sorted out later. That sorting process generally occurs when we sleep, which is when the conscious mind sleeps and the subconscious is most active.

	Moving Memories: Changing Locations.

You just bought a new type of frozen dinner at the store. Perhaps you bought a few of them. The first time, you read the cooking instructions. The second time, you probably don't remember them, so you read the instructions again! By the third time, the instructions are stuck in your head. You have moved the memory of the cooking instructions from short-term to long-term memory through repetition.

This process of repetition is how the conscious mind sorts important from on important information.

Of course, there are other methods that the mind use to shift information from short-term to long-term memory. Repetition is only one. For example, the conscious mind tends to more rapidly store music, rhymes and pictures. That's why we remember our ABCs when they are song to us, rather than just repeated verbally. Our mind much more easily remembers the ABC jingle. The music is a key to move the information from short-term to long-term memory.

For infants and small babies, booster chairs are much more convenient than highchairs. Besides, they're easy to transport so you can take them with you. Headed to a friend’s? Take along with you. We like this one.

A cleaner tray for baby wherever you go. The Healthy care deluxe booster seat has a feeding tray you can sanitize right in the dishwasher. With the snap-on lid in place, the tray will stay clean until you're ready to use it. So you can take it wherever you go (it folds compactly) and always be sure that baby's feeding tray is dishwasher clean. Three height adjustments allow for a custom fit to any table. Front and rear seat straps adjust to fit virtually any chair and three-point harness adjusts to hold growing child securely. Folds compactly for portability, with a carry strap so you can take it anywhere.

Product reviews of the top five children's car seats

I just became a grandfather. Three grandchildren of the same time! My son had twins and my daughter had a son. All boys! In their mother's generation, it was all girls! But, that got me thinking about gizmos for babies and small children. So, I decided to take a look at car seats, strollers, high chairs and beds.

My first set of reviews is about car seats. Car seat technology for children has progressed a lot last 30 years. I am amazed at the diversity. I'm also amazed at the functions and features now available. So I did my research (so you don't have to do yours) and here's the top 5 list:

	1. Safety 1st Alpha Omega Elite 3 in 1 Convertible Car Seat, Lamont

	2. Graco Backless TurboBooster Car Seat

	3. Graco SnugRide Infant Car Seat

Graco SnugRide Infant Car Seat (review and the valuation)

Rumor has it that this infant car seat is the number one selling car seat in the US. We believe it! My grandson writes one! It's moderately priced considering the competitive field. It has superior construction and amazing safety. They handle makes it easy to carry. This was one of the first infant car seats to come on the pop up some screen, which is now, on other products. Frankly, I'd rate this one 10 out of 10.

And the essential option when you go with this car seat is the stroller adapter! The stroller adapter converts from a car seat to a stroller and can be carried in the backseat or trunk of a car. No need to move baby from device to device. You can take a look at it in more detail here:

Britax Frontier 85 Combination Booster Car Seat (review and evaluation)

We took a look at the Britax car seat which sells in a range $250-$390. what does it have that its competitors don't?

First of all, this is an amazingly adjustable car seat! Seat height and width are adjustable as well as the seat straps and buckles. It appears to be extremely well constructed.

it is available in a variety of color choices, and has features like built-in drink holders for the kids. Once your baby starts crawling, he or she might crawl right over to this one! It's pretty, functional, and priced on the moderate side.

 I like it!

If you are considering a car seat, I like to travel, you should also consider this carrying case. It is very handy!
